Rietumu Banka and Gallery Daugava invite you to the opening of the exhibition in the Exhibition Hall of Rietumu Capital Centre, Vesetas street 7, Riga, May 17, 2012 at 4:00 p.m.
Uģis Auziņš (b. 1945) is one of the artists who don’t often exhibit their work. Therefore his solo exhibition “Rustica” at the Rietumu Banka exhibition hall will be a rare opportunity to view his painting. He teaches at the Art Academy where his pedagogical work consumes much of his time. Although it may appear that this detracts from his creative work, Uģis Auziņš considers teaching to be a creative process. And it is never certain which is more creative; working at the easel or teaching students. The works displayed in the exhibition clearly indicate the artist’s cultural background, his intelligent attitude toward art, art history as well as his exceptional ability to interpret existing cultural values. His art is close to constructivism with a delicate arrangement of forms and tonally nuanced painting.
His creative work also includes depictions of nature which seem to be associated with the artist’s sense of life that reflects images of nature. The use of lights, tonal relationships, a horizon in his landscapes suggest the existence and greatness of man in front of nature. All these are subtle small size works, but emotionally powerful. Uģis Auziņš is an artist who had been painting for his own pleasure without a desire to astonish anyone, to excel and attract attention. Each work is a talk to himself. Quiet and serious.
