Maija Nora Tabaka

Born on November 5, 1939, in Jelgava, Latvia.

“My career started with large-size paintings. Books, movies and life itself made a genuine influence on me. There was a time when everyone took a fancy to Italian films. My favourite movie director was Fellini. If you had a closer look at my “Wedding in Rundāle” you could see it as a hologram from a movie by Fellini. I was drawn to Baroque splendour, marble, plaster flowers and that enigmatic Fellini milieu where people get transformed into the past-time images and become a mystery that gets covered by the time.”

Maija Nora Tabaka. From the album “Maija Nora Tabaka”, publisher “Gallery Daugava”, 2018.
