Laima Bikse

Born on February 26, 1970, in Cēsis, Latvia.

Laima Bikše, by creating a world of her own with colours on canvas or sometimes on a wooden surface, has succeeded in what nearly all artists strive for. She has created her own space with its own characteristic scale and relationships where a dandelion looks as tall as Eiffel Tower, at the bottom of which a writer is writing her own novel (The Writer of Amorous Novels, 2008). It echoes our childhood and dreams, and reflects the world living inside us if only we find time to perceive it. Laima’s painting seems to be effortless, emerging as if from itself. It has no desire to astonish anyone. Then, why is it noticed and why does a modern man who is always in a rush, pause to look at her work? The answer seems to be that she is so truthful and genuine and her painting exudes a sensual, delicate tonality which makes it so powerful.

1994–1997 Professors Imants Vecozols and Vilis Ozols Master Studio of Painting.
1990–1997 Latvian Academy of Art, Department of Painting.
1981–1988 Janis Rozentāls Riga Secondary School of Art.
