The artist Verners Lazdāns describes his solo exhibition himself:
Paintings from the “grey series of 2017-2019” could be attributed to the results of an experiment aimed at questioning the “correctness” of my perception.
In these artworks the images are in the state of transformation, in some alienated milieu, always ready to adapt, to get reborn, to embody, resist and imitate. These processes are always in balance between being and not being.
I presume that the world differs from the way I perceive it, and we must not attempt to explain everything. Everyone perceives reality differently.
I might see things somewhat blurred, as looking through frosted glass. In my works, images and objects appear to have lost outlines and distinct shapes.
Physicists describe the invisible world, so with the means at its disposal why couldn’t art do the same?
For me, the process of work is a game during which I create images and in doing so, indirectly seek interconnections between the personal and universal as in real life, by making errors, taking risks and striving for answers and possibilities of reconstruction. .
Sometimes, while seeking for something definite, I come up to something entirely different.
Lately, if I want to be honest to myself, I do not give titles to my artworks, but only “identification codes”.
