"Painting to me is not a passionate one-night stand in the summer solstice. For me it is a life-long love that does not require vows before God and the altar. It is my entire life, and I can deceive only myself if I fail to take advantage of everything bestowed on me by the Almighty and do not serve the people who love the beautiful and the truthful." /Imants Vecozols/

The artist belongs to the generation that was educated in the post-war period and entered the art scene of Latvia in the late 50s, a very complicated and stressful time when people were held in ideological grips. By examining Vecozols` painting you can hardly find a formal link with something else, but he is sure that there are things one cannot speak loudly on, but only slowly, quietly, even in a whisper. And there are things that speak by themselves. At the "white still-life"I feel I understand from where its attraction comes. It contains a coded message which makes people to revalue their life.
