Andrejs Ameļkovčs
Andrejs Ameļkovčs
Andrejs’ works look great in modern interiors dominated by glass and metal. Since artists cannot ignore their time and its tendencies, we can presume that Andrejs paints keeping in mind a certain place where his artwork could hang. Looking at his works one should note the controlled aesthetics that distinguishes his painting, where the colour scheme is often saturated, intensive and with an occasional dramatic accent. An attempt to seek any personal feelings or meditational inspiration in his work would be pointless. The artist is completely comfortable with the possibilities of the medium of oil painting. He knows how to exploit the inspiring colour depth, to accentuate colour contrasts and to create subtle transitions, although he often uses acrylic which is so popular in contemporary painting. Yet it is colour that forms the space in which the artist positions his graphic signs and system of images, created by his elaborate and elegant line. For years Andrejs was sort of moving towards “pure”, that is, non-objective painting, but then he took a sudden sharp turn to not very distinct figural painting. Andrejs is a brilliant draughtsman, which cannot be said about every painter. No wonder that he enjoys teaching drawing to students at the Art Academy.
